McDonald’s reopened five restaurants in Dnipro on 25 April as signs of ordinary everyday life continued to return to wartime Ukraine. The global fast food giant initially shuttered its more than 100 outlets across Ukraine on 24 February, 2022, in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion. McDonald’s began reopening restaurants in Kyiv in September 2022, and has since resumed operations in a number of cities across the country.
The five reopened restaurants in Dnipro will be joined in early May by a further two outlets in the city. Special security procedures have been introduced in the event of air raid alerts which will see venues closed and staff moved to safety in nearby shelters.
The return of McDonald’s to Dnipro follows the chain’s recent resumption of operations in southern Ukraine’s Odesa Oblast. A total of nine restaurants reopened in the Black Sea port city and surrounding region in late March. There are now over eighty McDonald’s restaurants working in Ukraine.
