Yaroslavsky’s Kharkiv Palace Hotel retains international honors for second year
The Premier Palace Hotel Kharkiv first opened its doors in the former Ukrainian capital city on the eve of the Euro 2012 football championship and served as the regional UEFA headquarters during the tournament

Oleksandr Yaroslavsky’s Kharkiv Palace Hotel won a brace of awards at the 2020 International Hospitality Awards, which took place at Kyiv’s InterContinental Hotel on 1 March. The eastern Ukrainian hotel took first place in the Best Five-Star Business Hotel and Best MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) Hotel categories, winning both awards for the second consecutive year.

Launched in 2011, the annual International Hospitality Awards recognize hospitality industry leaders in 27 nominations. The 2020 awards featured the participation of 389 hotels from a total of 25 European countries. In the two nominations where the Kharkiv Palace Hotel emerged victorious, it finished ahead of rivals from cities including Vienna, Warsaw and Baku.

The Kharkiv Palace Hotel was constructed as part of the eastern Ukrainian city’s preparations to serve as one of Ukraine’s four host cities during the Euro 2012 European football championship. It was the first five-star hotel to open in Kharkiv. Oleksandr Yaroslavsky’s DCH Group managed the construction process, with the businessman investing an estimated USD 126 million into the project.

The hotel was one of a number of infrastructure projects bankrolled by Yaroslavsky as part of the Kharkiv’s Euro 2012 preparations. Other flagship projects included a comprehensive upgrade of Kharkiv International Airport.

The Kharkiv Palace Hotel served as regional headquarters for UEFA officials during Euro 2012 and has since become a popular venue for major regional, national and international events. Recent highlights have included the December 2019 sixtieth birthday celebration of Yaroslavsky himself, which saw the hotel play host to a wide range of celebrities and many of Ukraine’s most prominent and influential personalities.
