Ukrainian food exporters are poised to continue their international expansion into Muslim markets thanks to recognition of the country’s Halal food certification process by Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM).

Ukraine’s Halal certification process, which indicates that produce is in line with Islamic law, has received two-year recognition beginning in January 2019.

The JAKIM recognition program is one of the most stringent globally, making Ukrainian registration in Malaysia a potential stepping-stone towards entry into other Muslim markets.

Ukrainian exports to Malaysia grew in 2018 for the third consecutive year and are now close to USD 400 million annually.
