One of Ukraine’s leading grain traders has announced plans to construct an entirely new port close to the country’s southern breadbasket heartlands as efforts continue to bolster Ukrainian agricultural export capacity.
Mykolaiv-based Nibulon will build a new port at Oleksandrivka in Kherson region over the coming five years. The facility will join existing Nibulon infrastructure in the region including two nearby transshipment terminals.
Nilbulon has pioneered the use of modern river barges for agricultural cargo and is currently working to shift its transportation emphasis entirely to the Dnipro River.
News of plans to construct a new port come at a time when the Ukrainian agriculture sector is attracting unprecedented international infrastructure investment as multinationals seek to prepare the country for a greater role in global food security in the coming decades.
