Ukraine’s largest private energy company DTEK has unveiled plans for the EUR 450 million expansion of its Tyligulska Wind Power Plant in Mykolaiv region close to southern Ukraine’s Black Sea coast. The news was announced at the World Economic Forum in January, and came after the Ukrainian energy giant reached a financing agreement with lenders to purchase 64 wind turbines from Denmark’s Vestas, one of the world’s leading turbine manufacturers.

This is the largest private sector investment in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, and is believed to be the biggest ever private investment in Ukraine’s energy sector. Once complete, the Tyligulska Wind Power Plant is set to become Ukraine’s largest wind farm. It is projected to have 83 turbines with an installed capacity of 500 MW, enough to power approximately 900,000 households.

In addition to expanding the Tyligulska facility, DTEK is also planning a 650 MW wind farm in central Ukraine’s Poltava region. These projects are part of the company’s efforts to achieve a 2 GW renewable energy portfolio in Ukraine by 2030. DTEK’s EU subsidiary, DTEK Renewables International, is currently building wind, solar, and battery projects in Italy, Romania, Poland, and Croatia.
